Alan Grant, Batman and Daredevil: King of New York

Started September 1 Finished September 1, 2002; 49 pages. Posted 04 September 2002

Jesus fuck, Ive read a lot of graphic novels over the last week or so. Hey, I said I was going to read nothing but trash until the end of the month, and Im sticking by it! But with all the trash I read, I just wish more of it were better. Particularly this one.

I could give two shits about Batman — hell I didnt even like the movies — ANY of them. But Daredevil is my childhood friend/obsession. And yes, Ive read dozens of shitty Daredevil comics before, but it seems this is the worst place to do a bad story.

For those fortunate enough to not be a total geek, Batman and Daredevil are comic characters published by competing corporations. Ninety-nine percent of the time, you wont find any kind of crossover or reference between the two companies or characters. So the fact that the two publishers shook hands and agreed to make some cash by allowing a crossover (which would hopefully lure fans of one character into purchasing the other), this would seem to be a momentous occasion.

So why, dear Gott in Himmel, would you make a story line this awful and boring? This doesnt make me want to check out Batman comics and in fact, it makes me embarrassed of Daredevil. What if some wide-eyed kid got his first view of Matt Murdock (Daredevils alter-ego, you lucky non-geek person, you) from this?

Ack, it makes me depressed just to think about it. Good thing this Daredevil movie is gonna RULE!

Hopefully.

Rating: Say it aint so, Mr. Murdock! Say it aint so!
