Alan Moore, "Swamp Thing: The Curse"

Started June 1 Finished June 1, 2002; 191 pages. Posted 01 June 2002

I guess DC decided to reprint all of the Alan Moore issues in trade paperback form, which is fine by me, seeing how I dont have all the issues. Normally these kind of reprints have some other respected author or cult icon writing a page or two about how great these issues are, but this doesnt have any of that. I think its because they dont need anybody to say that these stand up on their own, so you dont need to sell anybody.

Moore walks a thin line for a comic book writer. Some of the stuff he writes about can get dangerously close to getting silly or, even worse, geeky. But he always pulls back and saves face. The first collection in this series uses radiation poisoning as the central theme, and I was just waiting for some Indian to show up in the panels, crying over some litter on the highway. Thankfully, it didnt happen, and the story moved on to better areas of macabre. It wasnt the best stuff Ive read by Moore, but even a bad book by him is better than the best books by some of the other hacks in the field.
