Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steel, America: What Went Wrong?

Started October 23 Finished November 4, 2003; 245 pages. Posted 10 November 2003

A few days ago I saw a guest on The Daily Show who said, Economics is like pissing down your leg. It doesnt seem hot to anybody but you.

That applies to this book in a way. Though it starts off well and the human angle interest stories are well written, you eventually have to go to the numbers, as Jerry Lewis would say. And thats where the pissing analogy comes into play.

Of course, if you can manage to make sense of the graphs, charts, and percentages thrown at you, despite being published in 1992, youll soon be crapping in your pants as well.

So, America: what did go wrong? I cant exactly answer that. Hell, I cant even explain what went wrong with own life. But I suspect all of you all at fault for both matters.

Rating: Worth working in a used bookstore and getting for cheap.
